Ngāti Awa Te Toki Kapa Haka Festival will return to Edgecumbe Domain for the 2026 festival, following a decision made by Te Ahi Kaa o Ngāti Awa Te Toki.
Te Ahi Kaa o Ngāti Awa Te Toki - the committee made up of representatives from the 23 hapū of Ngāti Awa - recently met to discuss venue options for the biennial festival, which has been held since 2014.
Edgecumbe Domain was previously selected as the host venue for the 2022 festival and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from kapa leadership, iwi uri, kaumātua, kapa leadership, stakeholders, and attendees.
The venue was recognised for its accessibility, spacious layout, and ability to comfortably accommodate the growing numbers attending the festival.
Following those successful outcomes, the committee agreed Edgecumbe Domain remains the best fit for the 2026 event.
The Operations Ohu now looks forward to working alongside existing and new suppliers, partners, and Te Kaunihera-ā-Rohe o Whakatāne to deliver another successful celebration of Ngāti Awa kapa haka, culture, and community.
